Gairloch Holiday Park

Getting to us

The site sits a little way up the hill looking out over the sea. It is actually situated in Strath, which adjoins Gairloch. To see the location of the site you can use the following multimap link:

>> Multimap link to location of site

Please note that the red circle isn't quite in the right place. We are to the right (east) of Mihol Rd and nearer the sea front.

All routes to the site are beautiful and you are likely to see deer. You can use the multimap 'Get directions' feature to find a good route from where you are. However, we suggest the following:

From most places it is best to go via Inverness

  1. Take the A835 west from Inverness
  2. Just after Garve turn left onto A832
  3. Follow this road all the way to Gairloch (passing Achnasheen and Kinlochewe).
  4. On arrival in Gairloch follow the road past the Loch Inn, and turn left by the general stores and police station onto B8021
  5. Follow the road down the hill and along the sea front. You will see a big white hotel (The Millcroft). Turn immediately right after this.

Notes about the route: This route is definately the easiest approach with a caravan. The majority of the drive is excellent A road. The last part of the A832 just after Loch Maree goes to single track with passing places and winds up through the hills a little. Gradients are fine, but be aware of your weight ratios.

From Skye / Loch Alsh

If you are coming up the west coast then it is likely that you may have been on Skye or around the Loch Alsh area. If this is the case then the route shown above means a very long loop up Loch Ness. This is still the advised route if you are at all nervous about towing, however the following route gives an alternative for more experienced drivers. Please note that it is important that your weight ratios are correct and that your power to weight ratios are in your favour on this route as it involves some sleep gradients. It is possible, with some care, to take a twin axle van along this route.

  1. From the A87 at Auchtertyre take the A890 north towards Stromeferry (there is no ferry here).
  2. Follow the A890 all the way to the T junction after Strathcarron. Turn right on the A890 to head north east.
  3. At Achnasheen turn left at the roundabout onto the A832.
  4. Follow this road all the way to Gairloch (passing Achnasheen and Kinlochewe).
  5. On arrival in Gairloch follow the road past the Loch Inn, and turn left by the general stores and police station onto B8021
  6. Follow the road down the hill and along the sea front. You will see a big white hotel (The Millcroft). Turn immediately right after this.

Notes about the route: This is not a route for a nervous driver. Experience is required. The A87 starts with a long and relatively steep incline to get over the hills. This is normal A road. Once over the hills and coming down towards Stromeferry the road is relatively steep downhill and thins to single track with passing places. This is fine, but take care with breaking distances when it is wet. The road remains much like this up until Glencarron lodge although it is only steep for the first part of the NE stretch. After the lodge the road widens again. DO NOT be tempted to take a caravan around the Shieldaig route. Although possible this is not a recommended route.
